Billing & subscriptions
UnitTally has three plans: Free, Plus, and Pro. Every plan lets you run online fundraising; paid plans lower your per-transaction UnitTally fee and add features like unlimited campaigns, extra admin seats, and custom branding. You can change plans yourself from the console — no sales call, no contract.
Where billing lives
Section titled “Where billing lives”Open your organization, then go to Settings → Billing. The page shows your current plan and a side-by-side comparison of Free, Plus, and Pro with each plan’s monthly price.
Upgrading your plan
Section titled “Upgrading your plan”- On Settings → Billing, find the plan you want and choose Upgrade.
- You’re taken to a secure Stripe-hosted checkout page.
- Pay by bank account (ACH) or card. Bank payment is the default and is a good fit for booster clubs and PTAs whose bylaws don’t allow holding a card — the funds are debited directly from the organization’s bank account.
- After payment confirms, your plan updates automatically and the lower fee applies to new transactions.
Bank (ACH) payments settle over a few business days, so a bank-funded upgrade may take a short time to activate while the debit clears.
What each plan costs
Section titled “What each plan costs”The UnitTally fee shown on each plan is separate from Stripe’s payment processing fee (roughly 2.9% + 30¢), which Stripe charges to move money. UnitTally never adds a markup on top of Stripe’s processing fee. Manual payments you record yourself — cash, check, Venmo — are always $0 UnitTally fee on every plan.
See the fees and caps guide for the full breakdown, and the pricing page for the current plan prices.
Add-ons
Section titled “Add-ons”Add-ons let you turn on a single premium feature — a custom domain or removing UnitTally branding (white-label) — without moving your whole organization to a higher plan. You manage them under Settings → Add-ons.
- On a paid plan (Plus or Pro): adding an add-on attaches it to your existing subscription, so it appears on the same invoice.
- On the Free plan: you can still buy an add-on on its own — no paid plan required. You’ll be taken to Stripe to pay by bank account (ACH) or card, and the add-on is billed as its own small subscription. It shows up under Settings → Add-ons, where you can cancel it at any time.
Add-on prices are shown on the pricing page. An add-on you’re paying for stays active until you cancel it, at the end of the current billing period.
If you later upgrade to a plan that already includes an add-on’s feature — for example, the Pro plan includes both a custom domain and white-label branding — UnitTally automatically cancels the separate add-on for you, so you’re never billed twice for the same thing.
Changing to a lower plan (downgrading)
Section titled “Changing to a lower plan (downgrading)”You can move to a lower plan yourself from Settings → Billing. Pick the plan you want to move to and UnitTally walks you through what will change:
- The change takes effect at the end of your current billing cycle, not right away. You keep everything you’re paying for until then, and you’re not charged again for the current plan.
- Custom domain and white-label branding are handled one at a time. For each one you currently have, you choose whether to drop it or keep it as a paid add-on on the lower plan. Keeping a custom domain avoids breaking links people have already saved or that search engines have indexed.
- Plan-only features — extra campaigns, custom accent color, custom pages — simply become read-only on the lower plan. Nothing is deleted: existing campaigns keep running, published pages stay up, and access returns in full if you upgrade again.
The wizard shows your new monthly total before you confirm. See the pricing page for current plan and add-on prices.
Canceling a scheduled downgrade
Section titled “Canceling a scheduled downgrade”Before a scheduled change takes effect, Settings → Billing shows the pending change and a button to cancel it. Canceling keeps you on your current plan with no interruption.
Managing or canceling
Section titled “Managing or canceling”Once you’re on a paid plan, Settings → Billing shows a Manage billing button. It opens the Stripe billing portal, where you can:
- Update your payment method
- View and download past invoices
- Cancel your subscription
If you cancel, your organization returns to the Free plan’s features and fee at the end of the current billing period. Your campaigns, orders, and member data are not deleted — features that are Plus/Pro-only are simply hidden while you’re on Free.
Who can change billing
Section titled “Who can change billing”Only an organization owner or admin can start an upgrade or open the billing portal. Other roles see the current plan but not the billing controls — ask an owner if you need a change.
